Safety probe adds a new twist

The launch soon brought attention from U.S. safety officials. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is checking Teslaโ€™s certification process for the Cybercab. That review matters because normal federal safety rules were written with human drivers in mind. A standard car has controls such as a steering wheel and brake pedals. The Cybercab does not.

The safety agency began looking into Teslaโ€™s procedures only a day after the Austin service started.
