Tesla-SpaceX merger rumours are growing again. Elon Musk has now spoken about the idea. He did not confirm that a deal is coming. But he also did not say it will never happen. That has started fresh discussion among investors and technology experts.
Musk speaks about merger rumours
As reported by Reuters, Elon Musk was asked during Tesla’s earnings call if Tesla and SpaceX could one day become one company. He did not give a direct answer. Instead, he said such matters cannot be discussed during an earnings call because they must follow legal and company rules. Musk also said the two companies now have “more and more overlap.” Tesla and SpaceX already work together on several projects. Their partnership has become stronger over time. That has made many people wonder if the relationship could become even closer in the future.
As reported by Forbes, Musk pointed to projects that already connect the companies. These include Starlink internet technology for Tesla vehicles and the planned TeraFab chip factory involving Tesla, SpaceX and xAI. Even though he avoided talking about a merger, he made it clear that the companies continue to work closely together. Tesla’s General Counsel Brandon Ehrhart also praised the partnership. He said SpaceX is an important business partner and that both companies already benefit from working together. Still, neither Musk nor Ehrhart announced any plan to combine the businesses.
Strong ties keep rumours alive
The close link between the two companies has kept the rumours alive. Tesla and SpaceX share technology, engineering knowledge and long-term goals. Both are also spending heavily on artificial intelligence and advanced technology. As reported by The Times of India, earlier reports claimed SpaceX had explored a possible merger with Musk’s AI company, xAI, before its planned public offering. Those reports added even more fuel to the wider debate about whether Musk could one day bring more of his companies together.
Even so, experts believe a Tesla-SpaceX merger would not be easy. Any deal would need approval from regulators. Company ownership, shareholder interests and legal rules would also have to be considered. Musk owns different stakes in both the business‘. He owns 11% of Tesla and 40% of SpaceX, this would make any merger more complicated. At the moment, there is no official proposal. The two companies remain separate businesses. They simply continue to work together on selected projects.
